NFTs are undoubtedly disrupting and transforming all major industries. From gaming to music and fashion, all the way to real estate, NFTs have a major influence on their digital transition.

The new addition to this movement is NFT-based social partying games. Among Us is currently one of the forerunners dominating this space. Not yet the NFT aspect, but the social partying scene. We’re here to explore how this game can grow to be a pioneer in play-to-earn games.

This article sheds light on how the introduction of NFTs and a play-to-earn model can transform this game further while having all the perks of social entertainment.

    What is Among Us?

Before going deeper into the various ways NFTs can transform Among Us, let’s firstly cover what this party game is all about.

Among Us was first introduced in 2018 as a party game of teamwork and betrayal. Crewmates (the good guys) work together to complete tasks before one or more Imposters (the bad guys) can kill everyone aboard. In a nutshell, it is based on the murder-mystery genre of movies and first-player games but involves group collaboration to make it more fun.

Among Us took a sudden peak in growth when COVID lockdown was first introduced. Teens, among adults, were desperate to (re)connect with their peers and family. And what better way to connect online than to solve a murder mystery together? To put its sudden growth in perspective, within two years of launch, Among Us managed to attract 60 million daily active users with over 100 million mobile app downloads!

Described as an online multiplayer game where players have to work together to fix their crumbling spaceship. All while figuring out who the imposters/culprits are. The mechanics behind the game uses the theory of the social deduction system, where the game-play focuses on a conflict between two teams. There is an informed minority and an uninformed majority.

At the start of each game, all players are randomly assigned one of the two roles: the crewmate or an imposter. The imposters know what role each player has been assigned whereas the crewmates are none the wiser. For the team of imposters, they must kill all the crewmates without getting caught in order to win. On the other hand, Crewmates must either discover who the imposters are and vote them out of the ship or finish repairing the ship by doing small tasks. This will ensure victory for the crewmates.

    What’s the Catch?

Well, it wouldn’t be a fun game if it was all as easy as spotting the bad guy. The main catch is that players are only allowed to talk to each other during emergency meetings. And no you can’t just call emergency meetings. Only after finding, and reporting, a body of a slain crewmate can a player press the emergency button. Furthermore, each player can only press the button once per game.

During these emergency meetings, players discuss what they have seen and observed and vote to either kick out a suspicious player or continue completing the small set of tasks. Finally, the imposters will certainly also be present in the emergency meetings and will try their best to convince other players of their good faith. So the crewmates must work together and use logic to see beyond deception and make the right calls.

    Among Us NFTs

    What are Among Us NFTs?

With the gameplay of Among Us covered, we can jump straight into Among Us NFTs. You must be wondering at this moment how an online multiplayer game that’s based on a social setting turns into NFTs?

Although there are two main kinds of characters in Among Us, each character is customizable further. Players can choose different attributes to make their character stand out, such as skin color, clothing items, hats as well as a customizable visor! Where does such customization of characters lead to? Digital assets in the form of NFTs!

This is how Among Us NFTs were born. Instead of playing the boring free version of the game, NFTs can completely transform Among Us gameplay. Players can pay a certain amount of ETH to purchase their Among Us NFT, customize it further and play along with their avatar in this murder-mystery solving game. There’s a twist though. You cannot knowingly purchase an imposter or crewmate character. Only upon your purchase will you unlock the content in NFT and find out whether the character is a crewmate or a treacherous imposter.

Ways to Introduce Play-to-Earn Model in Among Us

There is little fun in introducing NFTs to an existing game without integrating a play-to-earn model. After all, what’s the best way to increase the interest of all players in a social setting than introducing a prize pot?

How Can Among Us NFT Be a Reality?

Please note that this is not currently a feature of Among Us. We are simply illustrating how Among Us can adopt a play-to-earn model to transform the gameplay to the next level.

The best way to capture the interest of all players and foster team collaboration is by introducing an entry fee. Each player will have to connect their crypto wallet to enter the game room. By paying a small entry fee in ETH, all players contribute to the winning prize pot.

Assuming that each game has ten players, where each player contributes 0.01 ETH, the total prize pot will be worth 0.1 ETH or approximately 100 USD. Now with real money at stake, you can surely expect a high level of attention from each player.

If the Crewmates work strategically and ensure they can spot out imposters before it’s too late, they stand a chance of winning ETH. By voting out the imposters and fixing the crumbling spaceship, they will claim the total pie of ETH to themselves.

On the other hand, imposters need to ensure that crewmates fail at their tasks. Or simply kill all the crewmates onboard the vessel. If they are able to slay all crewmates, they will rightfully claim the prize pot and take home 0.10 ETH.

    Our Final Remarks

There are numerous ways to make the incredible game of Among Us more incredible. Although the creators of Among Us feel that the game is complete, their loyal users believe there is a lot more to it.

We simply highlighted a couple of ways Among US NFTs and play-to-earn initiatives can completely transform this game into a banger. Couple this with the move-to-earn model, where players can make use of wearable assets, and you can possibly have the best-ever partying game out there.

We certainly hope to see this game transform into a mega NFT project in the near future.
