Avatar: The Last Airbender

If you think you know everything about NFT, think again! Once again, Funko has come up with an unimaginable collaboration.

Funko Pop is partnering with Paramount Studios to release an NFT collection inspired by two legendary anime series.

However, this partnership stands out because these NFTs do not feature 2D anime characters but are digital images of Funko Pop figurines.

You’re curious… Let’s take a closer look!

Avatar Legend NFTs: The Collaboration

Funko and Paramount Studios announced their partnership on June 29th, 2021, for the release of non-fungible tokens based on The Last Airbender and The Legend Of Korra.

Despite being released 17 years ago, The Last Airbender remains one of the most popular animated cartoons. The series is a fan favorite among both adults and children. For example, Avatar became number one in the US after it became available on Netflix.

The two media corporations sought to revive nostalgia for all generations by building on the success of the anime. Through the NFT cards, this collaboration enables retro animation to join the web3 industry.

With the release date set for August 9th at 11 AM PT, Avatar Legend NFTs consist of characters from both cartoons, including Zuko, Azula, Katara, and Sokka. The official name of this partnership is the Avatar Legends x Funko Series 1 Digital Pop!

These digital cards will be available to purchase on the Droppp site.

This is a secure and user-friendly NFT market dedicated to collectables in relation to pop culture only. The Series 1 Digital Pop NFTs will operate on the carbon-neutral WAX blockchain since the web3 store runs on it.

The collaboration will mint a total of 625000 NFTs. As mentioned above, the virtual cards will feature Funko’s bobbleheads of Avatar characters. The series will launch with two main packs: a standard and a premium pack.

The standard pack will cost around $9.99 per package, while the latter will cost $29.99.

What is exciting about this announcement is the opportunity to get your hands on the physical bobblehead figure. According to the news,

“Each pack of Digital Pops! Gives you the chance to reveal one of the rare Funko Digital Pops! When opened, which can then be redeemed for a free, limited edition, physical vinyl collectable.”

Notably, these physical bobbleheads of Avatar characters will not be available for purchase in the Funko Pop stores. Instead, you can only get this wave through the NFT packs.

This is a unique chance for avid collectors of Avatar merchandise and keen to enter the NFT industry; with the purchase of one Digital Pop NFT, you can get both physical and digital collectables.

What Is Funko?

It’s doubtful that you never came across a Funko Pop figure in your life. Whether in your best friend’s room or Target shelf, this merchandise is familiar to all. The mastermind behind these toys is Funko.

Funko is an American brand that specializes in the production and distribution of vinyl Pop-figures around the globe. The figures are related to the trending pop-culture references.

The company was founded in 1998 and released numerous NFT collections before collaborating with Paramount. Among these is the launch of Star Trek Digital NFTs in 2021. These virtual collectibles had 120 variations and included models of the movie’s characters, such as James T Kirk, Spock, and Scotty.

Additionally, in May 2022, Funko partnered with DC to launch a digital card series featuring the studio’s most well-known superheroes. Paramount Studios will help Funko release yet another NFT series in keeping with the spirit of the previous series.

About Paramount Studios

Do you know what the Mission Impossible and Transformers franchises have in common?

They were both Paramount Studios’ productions.

Paramount Studios contributes significantly to Hollywood’s success. The publication has a history of over a century, making it the fifth oldest and one of the “Big Five Film Studios.”

This isn’t Paramount’s first time producing NFT releases.

The studio took its first step into the metaverse with its partnership with RECUR. In an ironic coincidence, the NFT series was centred on Star Trek. These Star Trek collectibles were released earlier this year and consisted of AI-generated starship designs. You can also get the Enterprise ship among the several NFTs releases.

What Will The Response Be?

Every time a retro cartoon or series is revived in the metaverse (whether as an NFT or a play-to-earn game), it leads to chaos and arguments.

The modern releases divided fans based on varying opinions, with most of them being opposed to them. Avatar anime fans may feel the same way about the companies involved in the launch of the Digital Pop NFTs. This time, it will target not only Funko’s NFTs but also its physical figurines.

Right now, it’s too early to determine which side of the argument fans support. In spite of this, young people can now experience the magic of this legendary anime, which has been around for decades.

Isn’t it better to share the memories with others? So why should you feel different toward your childhood’s favorite TV shows?

Therefore, we look forward to the Avatar Legends NFTs and hope they will be well received by all the corporations and industries involved.

It’s only fair to have high expectations that Funko and Paramount Studios do these non-fungibles digital cards the justice they deserve.
