The Sandbox

The Sandbox has announced it is implementing a major update on Alpha Season 3’s leaderboard. The metaverse platform says that the update will enhance fairness and competitiveness as the Season draws to a close.

Sandbox’s Alpha Season 3 is steamrolling into its final weeks now. So far, the Season has been quite a success. According to the latest data, it has already surpassed 200,000 monthly users, and there are still a few weeks left.

Alpha Season 3 Leaderboard Update: What We Know

The new leaderboard update will feature several changes to how players are ranked in Alpha Season 3. For starters, the metaverse game will cancel EP progress on selected experiences. This will affect the leaderboard only.

It’s not clear what these “selected experiences” are. However, the Sandbox team maintains that EPs earned through “compromised” quests will be reset. The game will also reset all EP gains from quests that may have been affected by any system or patch updates during the Season.

So, what does this actually mean? First, users will notice a reduction in leaderboard EPs once the update fully rolls out on October 17th. This reduction is not universal or standard. Different Alpha Season 3 players will likely get different reductions.

Where Do the Points Go?

The good news is that there will still be a chance to re-earn the points. However, players will need to redo all the quests affected from scratch.

Also, the Sandbox will give each player a clear account of which quests they need to redo and how this will affect their EP scores on the leaderboard.

It is, however, worth reiterating again that this update only affects EPs earned through leaderboard quests. EPs earned to level up in Alpha Season 3 remain untouched.

So, players who were worried that the update might affect their progress to reach level 5 can breathe a sigh of relief.

Why Is the Sandbox Doing This

The main reason for this leaderboard update is to enhance the competitive nature of Alpha Season 3 while still making sure it is as fair to everyone as possible.

The Sandbox team acknowledges that some users may have exploited speed glitches in the game to earn better EP scores.

Although the game does not see anything wrong with this, for the purpose of fairness, it has decided to update the leaderboard to even out the playing field.

Other than the EP reset, the Sandbox does not intend to take additional action against any individual.

The P2E game also notes that it will continue to work to ensure that loopholes that could give some players an unfair advantage are sealed.

Alpha Season 3: The Story So Far

Alpha Season 3 was announced on August 22nd, and we covered the story here in detail. The new Season is supposed to have 90+ experiences. It also features up to 30,000 SAND rewards.

The Sandbox also announced at the time that it would introduce special quests where players can compete and earn a share of the 1.5 million SAND tokens on offer. Alpha Season 3 was also headlined by major celebs, including Steve Aoki and Snoop Dogg.

The plan was to run the Season for ten weeks and give fans around the world the full metaverse experience. So far, the third Season has been nothing but a success.

For instance, Alpha Season 3 has managed to get in 200,000 active players. The game is also getting nearly 40,000 active daily users.

Also, over 1.6 million hours have been spent on Alpha Season 3, one of the meta’s highest levels of user engagement.

Additionally, nearly 1.6 million people have visited the Sandbox since the new Season launched. Although this may not be all active users, it just shows the experiences in season 3 are drawing in lots of folks.

Alpha Season 3 Experiences

Alpha Season 3 has, in the meantime, has given players a series of incredible experiences and quests. Just today, the Sandbox announced that the Lords of Dogetown, a Dogecoin-themed NFT game, was available for players to explore.

But that’s not all. The Steve Aoki experience has been fascinating as well over the past few weeks. The Sandbox has also partnered with Star Atlas, an upcoming galaxy-themed P2E game on Solana, to offer the Star Atlas Game Jam. The partnership allows users to create gaming experiences using Star Atlas’s new Game Maker tool.

We have also seen the World of Women Museum showcase exclusive NFTs here, while the BAYC Miami experience came through as well.

These are some of the many experiences Alpha Season 3 has brought. And with almost two weeks left before the Season draws to a close, we expect more exciting offerings to drop in the coming days.
