Welcome to our Ultimate Gods Unchained Game Guide! At its core, Gods Unchained is a trading card game (TCG) with a dash of blockchain flavor. The cards may be tradable NFTs, and players with no prior blockchain experience can jump right in. It is also completely free to play. It’s one of the most well-known play-to-earn (P2E) card games on the blockchain to date.

Gods Unchained: What is it?

There are approximately 65,000 unique asset holders and 13 million NFTs in Gods Unchained. Since the game’s March 2021 launch, players have traded over $25 million worth of in-game goods.

It is possible to earn money and acquire full ownership of cards and other items by minting them. Additionally, if you’ve played older TCGs like Magic: The Gathering, playing Gods Unchained may come naturally to you. To start playing, players don’t need to have much background in blockchain technology or cryptocurrency.

The Ethereum network is where cards are stored, but users only interact with the blockchain when they exchange cards with other players.

Who is the creator of Gods Unchained?

Immutable, formerly Fuel Games, focuses on creating games with blockchain technology. The primary offering is Gods Unchained.

Gods Unchained, which was founded by James and Robbie Ferguson, has an excellent team, most notably Chris Clay.

Clay served as the MTG Arena’s previous director. The traditional TCG/CCG Magic: The Gathering can be played in a more “modern” manner thanks to MTG Arena. Gods Unchained currently has Clay working as the game director, and his involvement gives the project a lot of credibility and prestige.

How did God’s Unchained get its start?

The first card set for Gods Unchained, Genesis, was released shortly after the game’s development started in the summer of 2018, and a 1-of-1 Mythic card, Hyperion, was auctioned off for 146 ETH (roughly $61,000 USD at the time). The closed beta version debuted later that year, and the open beta was released in the summer of 2019.

In 2019, Gods Unchained’s parent company changed its name to Immutable.

It was announced in October 2019 that the Genesis collection had sold out. Following that, in 2020 and 2021, Gods Unchained released two more sets: Trial of the Gods and Divine Order, respectively.

Both Gods Unchained and Immutable have established themselves as major players in the blockchain industry thanks to backing from Coinbase and other venture capital funds.

What is Immutable X?

You can own, trade, and sell your cards and in-game items thanks to the Ethereum network’s (a blockchain) central technology in Gods Unchained. Gas prices have increased dramatically over the past year, limiting trading, and this situation is unlikely to change any time soon. This is not ideal for a game that is centered around trading cards.

Immutable developed, the first layer-two scaling solution on Ethereum that gives users true ownership of their in-game assets and enables users to trade and store NFTs without paying gas fees. According to the developers, as a layer-two solution, “it works with the Ethereum network to provide secure, immediate transactions with zero games fees.”

It’s critical to comprehend the P2E game’s main goal before moving on to the rest of the Gods Unchained Game Guide.

In Gods Unchained, you enter the arena as the god of your choice to engage in combat with another divine being. The creatures and spells you use in the battle for supreme victory come from your deck of cards. You succeed by bringing the health of the opposing god to zero while preventing yourself from suffering the same fate in the process.

Step One of Gods Unchained Game Guide: Creating an Account

Create an account at GodsUnchained.com to begin playing. No initial investment is necessary because creating an account is free, and you get free cards when you sign up.

After entering your email and password, select “Create and Download” to have the game automatically downloaded to your computer.

Step Two: Username and Verification

The register page is the next page you are taken to. Make up a username or, if necessary, enter a referral code. You can choose to sign up for email updates right here. Afterward, confirm your account by email.

Step Three: Logging In

After downloading the game, sign into your account.

After logging in, you are presented with the game’s home page, which has a number of tabs you can select from, including links to tutorials, the marketplace, the workshop, and the forge.

If you are new to trading card games (TCGs) or collectible card games (CCGs), the learning curve may seem particularly steep. The website’s educational resources, however, are a priceless tool. Although it might be tempting to skip them, watching the tutorials will be worth it in the long run.

Gods Unchained: Is It Free to Play?

Gods Unchained requires no monetary investment to play. The entire game can be played for free. Even as a free-to-play player, it is possible to advance to the highest ranks. Anyone can get started with just an Ethereum wallet and some spare time. For those looking to start building their collection, there are many options available, including the Core and Welcome card sets, three full set releases, and more. You can purchase common cards for as little as three cents each.

In a way, you do, since you get free core packs of cards when you sign up for an account, log in for the first time, level up, among other things. There are 140 cards in the welcome set, 70 of which have two copies each. These are already constructed editable decks.

The Gods Unchained Welcome Set is made to make it easier for brand-new players to understand how the game and each god operate. Additionally, you’ll receive a number of Core cards to use in personalizing and customizing these pre-built decks.

How do you play Gods Unchained?

Starting to play is the next step in your Gods Unchained Game Guide adventure!

Either solo or constructed are available as game modes. Play against a friend or a random opponent.

  • The opponent in a solo game is a computer
  • and constructive mode pits one player against another.

You advance in level and have the option to unlock card packs (common core cards) for each constructive victory. Then you are given a ranking in the game dashboard as a result.

You can get Flux by winning ranked games. Using the crafting material flux, you can create common core cards. The regular, fundamental set of cards that each Gods Unchained player can acquire by participating in the game is known as the core collection. Even if you lose games, you can still gain experience points by participating, so go out there and give it your all. Above all, remember to have fun and not worry about the little things.

Easiest Way to Start Playing Gods Unchained

No Gods Unchained Game Guide would be complete without basic how-to instructions for new players. Let’s build your confidence up so you can get playing and earning!

When you’re ready to try the game on your own after the tutorial, head to “Solo” mode. Here, you can test out any deck or strategy you like against a computer-controlled opponent.

Furthermore, there is no time limit and no stakes to worry about. Another perk is that you get to pick their deck, so you can practice against a specific build.

Steps to starting Gods Unchained

  1. Pick your deck — Each new player receives a free starter pack containing 70 different cards (with two of each). ‘Choose Deck’ is where you’ll go to make changes to your existing decks. It is possible to alter the starting deck by rearranging the cards and then saving the new configuration by pressing the ‘Select’ button. Finally, after deciding on a loadout, you can start a game by pressing the Play button.
  2. Select Your Unique God Power — but choose wisely! It has a fixed cost in mana and can be used for only one turn each. A player can choose his or her god for a game by arranging his or her hand of cards in accordance with the god’s strengths. There are a wide variety of God Powers available to give you an edge in battle.
  3. Choose new cards to swap out for the unwanted ones.
  4. Battle! — Use your mouse to move cards to their correct spots in order to call forth a wide variety of monsters. Like playing cards, God Powers can only be used once per round. You can have up to nine cards in your hand, and a maximum of six creatures on the playing area. You can use the gods however you see fit.
  5. Gain experience points and rewards for defeating enemies at higher levels in ranked battles.

Gods Unchained Game Guide to Cards and Sets

It’s all about the cards in Gods Unchained. However, these are intricate items that represent creatures, spells, and relics from all over Eucos’ vast landscape.

What card types are there?

Relics

Your god uses these to wreak havoc on the battlefield, taking and dealing damage as he or she goes.

Creatures

These cards are thrown directly into battle. They take the form of tangible combatants on the field of battle, each with their own Strength and Health bars and, in most cases, special abilities and keyword identifiers. They can be used in a variety of ways to help you win the battle, including attacking the other god or his creatures.

Spells

These are your additional weapons during the conflict. These magical effects take place instantly and have an effect on the board state. The sky’s the limit for them. You can increase the Health and Strength of your creatures with some spells, while others allow you to deal a set amount of damage to all of the ones on the opposing side of the field. These spells can deal devastating damage to the enemy god or miraculously restore your own. Some of them can even draw you extra cards, summon creatures, and change the tide of the game in incredible ways.

How do God’s Powers work?

gods-selections-animated-characters-drawn

Each god has special powers that can be used once per turn. You don’t need a card to use your god power, but they’re always handy to have in case you run out, reducing the likelihood that you’ll have to completely pass a turn if you don’t use them.

There are four different abilities for each god, each with its own effect and Mana cost, and different pros and cons depending on your deck and your opponent’s.

What is Mana?

Every action has a cost, whether you’re casting a spell or controlling a creature. In Gods Unchained, Mana is the game’s primary resource, and it determines the cost of each card. It’s in the upper left-hand corner of the card.

Beginning with one Mana, your total Mana pool increases by one each turn until turn five, after which the rate of increase slows.

What are the different parts of a card?

card-game-element-red-fire
A card breakdown without bending it. Source: GodsUnchained

Every component of a card is clearly visible so that you always know what effect your card will have when it is played to the board. You can see how each of these features works in the following diagram.

Domains

The domain of a card specifies to which deity it is aligned. The design and color displayed in your card’s top left corner will give away the domain to which your card belongs. There are six domains:

  • War,
  • Light,
  • Nature,
  • Deception,
  • Magic,
  • and Death.

Your card is considered Neutral if it does not fit into any specific domain. Gray cards are neutral and can be used in any deck, regardless of the domain.

The first step in making a deck is picking a god around which the deck will be based. For example, the god Auros oversees the War faction, which can only use cards of the appropriate symbol and color (neutral cards excluded) in their deck. No cards from the Nature domain belong in the War domain, and vice versa.

Sets

In card games, a set is a collection of cards organized around a common topic or theme. These can be found in several different types, including those that are completely free to play, those that cost money, those that are part of a limited-time promotion, and those that are completely unique. The icon on the upper right of a card indicates the set to which it belongs.

In-game sets that cost nothing to acquire are known as “free-to-play sets.”

“Promotional sets” are collections of cards and sets that were issued for a brief period of time to promote a specific event or product.

Expansion sets” are specially curated sets that add new content to the game and are available for a limited time only in the online store.

Mythic cards, each of which is unique, are used to create “one-of-a-kind sets.” Due to the fact that there is only ever one copy of each Mythic card, it is impossible for multiple players to possess the same Mythic at the same time.

Rarity

A card’s rarity is indicated by the color of its rarity gem. Cards of higher rarity have a lower drop rate, making it more challenging to find them in packs. In addition, each Legendary card can only be used once in a deck, while cards of lower rarities can be used twice, with the exception of Mythic, which is impossible to use at all.

  • Common = gray gem
  • Rare = blue gem
  • Epic = purple gem
  • Legendary = yellow gem
  • Mythic = red gem

Tribe

Your card’s tribe indicates the faction to which it belongs. Although not all cards feature a specific tribe, it is often beneficial to construct decks around abilities and factions that specifically target or synergize with specific tribes.

Stats

The final part of a card’s description includes its statistics, which determine how effective it is in battle.

  • Strength = the power of a card is its ability to deal or take damage in battle.
  • Health = refers to how much damage a card can take before it is destroyed.
  • Mana cost = How much mana a card in your hand needs to be played onto the battlefield.
  • Card text = The specific effect this card has in a game is detailed in its text. Specifically, “This creature gets +1 health after it attacks and survives,” from the Bladecaster card, is an example of this effect.

What is the best Starter Deck to use as a Gods Unchained beginner?

To get started, head to your Starter Decks, where you’ll find six different premade builds—one for each god and their unique playstyles. Depending on your preferred style of play, we recommend either the Nature Starter or the Light Starter as a good place to begin your TCG experience. By focusing on low-cost early plays and board control, these gods are excellent for learning the ropes before diving into the more complex ones.

Once you’ve gotten the hang of combat, you can explore the other Welcome Set decks in each domain. For each of the gods, the development team and professional TCG players have created a free deck that has been thoroughly tested.

Spending time with each will give you a solid grounding in the mechanics of the different gods and the decisions you’ll face throughout the game with each of the available decks. You can find the best deck for you by experimenting with the various starter sets, and if you’re having trouble deciding between two or more, you can always shuffle the cards in your deck to find a combination that works better.

How does play-to-earn work with Gods Unchained?

You earn non-blockchain cards during gameplay. After accumulating sufficient cards and Flux, forgery of blockchain cards and subsequent sale on the market becomes an option.

You can create brand new cards by combining existing ones in the Forge, accessible via the game launcher, to make better versions of the core cards. Once added to the Ethereum network, these tokens can be traded for goods and services.

As a final step, you can trade these cards in for cash at the Marketplace. You can then either add to your card balance by buying more cards or cash out your card balance for cash to spend as you please.

How to get new packs of Gods Unchained cards?

As you progress through the game and earn new levels, you will be rewarded with packs that can be used to acquire new monsters and spells. Here’s how to crack them open and get at the various cards inside:

  1. To access your packs, select the option to “Open Packs” from the menu bar.
  2. To access your left pack’s contents, move it to the altar’s center.
  3. What you’ve opened can be seen by clicking the back of the cards.
  4.  If you have more than one pack, you can access the subsequent packs by clicking “Next Pack.”

It’s also possible to purchase single cards and booster packs. Card packs and chests can be purchased on the website with ETH at any time, but they are only available during seasonal sales periods. Packs can be purchased here using Immutable X currency during sales events.

Once a sale ends, players can buy and sell seasonal cards (and chests) on the Immutable X Marketplace and other approved third-party marketplaces. Occasional in-game events, such as Weekend Ranked, also award seasonal packs.

How to build an advanced custom deck in Gods Unchained?

Now that you’ve got some experience under your belt and a healthy supply of new cards, it’s time to move on from the generic decks included in the Welcome Set and into the realm of the truly unique and powerful decks you’ve built yourself! Now that you know the basics of the game and have seen some PvP action, you can start experimenting with different card swaps to see which ones work best in your starting decks.

To refresh your memory, there are 30 cards in a standard deck. You may include up to two copies of the same card in your deck with the exception of Legendary cards, of which you may only include one.

Here, the community decks available on GU Decks can serve as a useful resource. For your average human, here are some recommended decks. You can check what decks are popular in the Arena right now by searching for “starter,” which is what most players use when they first join. As these decks include cards from the Welcome Set, you should already have everything you need to get started.

Top Tip: Most powerful decks have a wide variety of creatures and spells so that you may make a stand and deal repeated damage to your opponent’s creatures and permanents.

The following are some of PlayToEarn Diary’s recommended advanced community decks:

  2. To begin, select “Create a Deck,” then pick a deity.
  3. The filters at the upper left of the screen will allow you to navigate the area above the fold where your collection is shown. In order to add cards to your deck, simply click on them, and they will display at the bottom of the screen. When you click on your Custom Deck, a new window will pop up showing all of the cards you’ve added to it, along with the option to remove them. By clicking on the card, you can eliminate it from play.
  4. To give your deck a special nickname, select “Edit Deck.”
  5. To permanently store your modified deck, select “Save Deck.” Going forward, it can be chosen in both Solo and Constructed formats.

How do NFTs work in Gods Unchained? Game Guide Explanation

card-ten-golden-armor-godly
Those are some expensive-looking god-shorts. Source: Play to Earn

Gods Unchained includes some NFT cards that can be sold for money on secondary markets.

The core, common, and welcome set cards you receive as a welcome bonus cannot be sold. However, you can utilize Flux to improve your non-blockchain cards and formally convert them into marketable assets as you play and earn.

Cards of the Meteorite or higher level are traded. Generally speaking, cards with gray borders are simple quality cards and cannot be traded because they are not NFTs.

Before being tradable, newly released cards, like those in the Trial of the Gods set, must pass through a balancing phase.

How do you buy Gods Unchained NFTs?

Go to GodsUnchained.com and click ‘Market’ in the main navigation bar to access the Gods Unchained marketplace.

You are brought to the Immutable X Marketplace, where you can look over the available cards. Cards can be sorted by date listed, price, and individual card statistics or by listed currency (ETH, GODS, GOG, IMX, OMI, and USDC).

Both hardware and software MetaMask wallets, as well as Magic wallets, are supported on the market. To link your current MetaMask wallet or to create a new Magic wallet, choose Connect Wallet in the top-right corner.

Remember that you have options for selling your Gods Unchained NFTs. Simply click ‘Market’ to access the Immutable X marketplace, choose the cards from your inventory, and put them for sale. You must connect a cryptocurrency wallet to the market.

What are NFT card royalties in Gods Unchained?

The developers made details on Gods Unchained’s royalties available on May 12, 2022. All upcoming cards will be subject to royalty charges. Royalties will be added retrospectively to existing cards, which is fantastic news for players who have already made investments, but it will take time to implement completely.

The royalty charge is expressed as a percentage. The projected fee is the sum of money that the cardholder expects to make, depending on the typical cost of the card’s quality.

The card quality affects the royalty fee. The fees are paid by the purchaser and are included in the list price.

  • Meteorite – 5% – Less than $0.01
  • Shadow – 4% – $0.01
  • Gold – 3% – $0.04
  • Diamond – 1% – $0.14

What other features does Gods Unchained have?

Some of the extra stuff in Gods Unchained is as follows:

Tournaments

The game now hosts a Weekend Ranked tournament where participants earn money according to how well they do. Players have the opportunity to prove their might to the Gods’ community and gain rewards in the process.

Gods Unchained holds an online competition every weekend that starts on Friday. Players receive rewards based on how many of their first 25 games they win. Packs from the Core set and the most recent expansion set are among the rewards. At the conclusion of the weekend, players at the Mythic level who place in the top 10 overall earn additional prize packages.

Along with several lesser tournaments, the team is also working on a world championship-style competition with a sizable prize pool of about $570,000.

The Forge and Card Fusing

Players in Gods Unchained receive Core packs as they advance in rank via playing games. Sometimes you’ll see that you have one, two, or even four copies of the identical Core card and wonder, “What good is this to me?”

The Forge steps in at this point. You can fuse cards in the forge. Its own tab is present in the Launcher. Once a player has a sufficient number of copies of a Core card, they can fuse those cards to create a more expensive NFT version.

To accomplish this, a mortal must work hard in The Forge, expending flux and $GODS tokens to combine these cards into an improved meteorite NFT version of that card. With this improvement, the asset is added to the Immutable X.  A tradeable card with actual market worth is created.

Three items are required to begin fusing:

  1. Two copies of a simple Core card.
  2. Flux is the in-game resource that you can get from the Gauntlet of the Gods in Ranked Constructed games.
  3. The Gods Unchained token, or $GODS, which is the primary medium of exchange within the ecosystem.

Flux

A new in-client resource called Flux improves your basic cards. Earnings in flux are based on your current rank. You receive more Flux as your ranking rises. For instance:

  • Flux for a full Gauntlet of Bronze rank is 65.5.
  • Flux for a full Gauntlet of Mythic rank is 1,310.

As was already mentioned, fusing is the process by which you employ the Flux to obtain an improved Meteorite variant of that card. This improved card can be sold in the NFT marketplaces for actual cryptocurrency.

Depending on the card rarity, different amounts of flux are needed to fuse core cards:

  • Common costs 20 Flux
  • Rare costs 40 Flux
  • Epic costs 120 Flux
  • Legendary costs 200 Flux

Why start playing Gods Unchained?

Tutorials are the worst (and the best!) Source: GodsUnchained

One of the most played trading card blockchain games is still Gods Unchained. At the time of writing, it has only been available for a little more than a year and a half.

The Gods Unchained website features a tonne of educational resources, an easy-to-navigate market, and it’s free to start playing. There are opportunities to gain as you advance and create new cards, but depending on how much time you have to devote, it may be a slow burn.

A few things are still missing from Gods Unchained. Particularly noteworthy are alternative game possibilities and a useful ranking system outside of weekend events. However, the team hopes to deliver both of these features in addition to others in 2022.

The game is entertaining to play as is. Additionally, when you combine play to gain potential with card ownership, you have a formidable combo.
